Working with families and students, as well as supporting my own kids, I have seen firsthand how personalized, data-driven, and well-written educational documents allow a student to not just survive but THRIVE both emotionally and academically. Conversely, I have seen how hard it can be to make sure that all stakeholders are on the same page, know the student well enough, understand the importance of personalized accommodations, and are able to follow through.
I have experienced both good and not-so-good support as a coach, parent, teacher, and consultant in a variety of school districts. My unique experience has let me sit on all sides of the table. Through all these different experiences, meetings, conversations, readings, and navigating challenges, I have learned so much about what is successful and what is not. Adding on my training and certification this summer, I am thrilled to be able to help families have smooth and productive experiences.
Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about your child's support or accommodations at school? Is your child frustrated, worried, or just downright mad when it comes to the academics, organization, or emotional components of school? If so, advocacy could be the answer you are looking for.
If your child faces challenges with ADHD, anxiety, or another mental health diagnosis that makes school a little more difficult, then a 504 plan may be the best option. However, these plans are often created with one-size-fits-all accommodations and might not really be exactly what your child needs. Advocacy can help you get personalized and truly individualized accommodations so that your student can thrive!
If your child has a disability that requires extra services at school in order to achieve their highest potential, an IEP is most likely the best option. However, the IEP process can be daunting, overwhelming, and frustrating. Add in the emotional component as the parent, and this can feel like climbing Mt. Everest. As an advocate, I am not only someone who can compassionately walk you through all t he steps, I can help ensure that the goals and services in the IEP are exactly what your particular student needs, leaving you peace of mind.
Children who experience gender fluidity and/or gender dysphoria face daily challenges, decisions, and blocks that can affect their mental health, their ability to focus on school, and even their physical well-being. As an advocate, I can be in your student's corner to ensure that the school has a plan in place not only to follow the ed code laws but also to help set a foundation for support and allyship during the school day.
